The day of the incident [9 Jan 2024], Game Warden Zachary Blackwood told the family Lake Las Vegas was becoming a concern as people were illegally feeding coyotes in the area. FOX5′s Joe Vigil previously reported coyotes biting people in the area as the City of Henderson announced warnings.

Hiker kills coyote with his bare hands after attack; tests confirm the animal had rabies

A coyote which a hiker killed with his bare hands has tested positive for rabies, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the Rhode Island Department of Health announced.

A kitten was confirmed Monday [19 Feb 2024] with Davidson County's 3rd case of rabies in 2024.

A resident in the Fair Grove community of Thomasville reported finding several stray kittens, one of which was injured and needed urgent veterinary care, the Davidson County Health Department said. The kitten was surrendered to a local animal rescue organization.

The rabies virus is spread via the saliva of infected animals and can be transmitted by biting another animal or a person. If you suspect your pet has come into contact with a potentially rabid animal,
whether through a bite or saliva, seek veterinary care immediately as even vaccinated animals may require a booster.

[Some diseases seem to have a season when more it is recognized. This does not seem to be true with rabies virus. It is a year around disease, which has no respect for seasons, or locations, or whether or not the victim is an owned animal, or a person. In short, rabies rules, if we let it.
