A person in Tanh Linh district died 2 months after being bitten on the leg by a stray cat, testing positive for rabies.

Tanh Linh郡の男性が、野良猫に足をかまれた2ヶ月後に死亡し、狂犬病の陽性反応が確認された。

On 12 Apr 2025, the Center for Disease Control of Binh Thuan province said the patient was a 36-year-old man residing in Gia An commune, Tanh Linh district.

Two months ago, on 9 Feb 2025, while [the man] was drinking water at the Gia An cemetery, a stray cat suddenly ran up and bit him on the left leg. The wound bled slightly, but he did not go to a medical facility to treat the wound, nor did he get a rabies vaccination.

2ヶ月前の2025年2月9日、［その男性］が Gia An 墓地で水を飲んでいたところ、突然野良猫が駆け寄り、左足を咬んだ。傷からは少し出血したが、彼は傷の治療のため医療機関を受診せず、狂犬病の予防接種も受けなかった。

By 4 Apr 2025, the patient showed symptoms of fatigue, fear of wind, difficulty breathing, and convulsions. Relatives took the patient to a local private medical facility for examination and diagnosis of suspected rabies. He was then transferred to the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

2025年4月4日までに、患者は疲労、風への恐怖、呼吸困難、およびけいれんの症状を示した。家族は患者を地元の民間医療機関に連れて行き、狂犬病の疑いでの検査と診断を受けた。その後、患者はHo Chi Minh市熱帯病病院に転院した。

The man had his saliva sample tested by PCR method, and the result was positive for rabies virus. After being advised by the doctor about his critical condition, the patient was taken home by relatives and died at home on 5 Apr 2025.

男性の唾液のサンプルをPCR法で検査したところ、狂犬病ウイルス陽性反応が確認された。医師から重篤な状態である旨の説明を受けた後、患者は親族によって自宅に搬送され、2025年4月5日に自宅で死亡した。

This is the third suspected rabies death in Binh Thuan in 2025. The 2 previous cases were a 48-year-old man in Hong Liem commune and a 52-year-old man in La Da commune (both in Ham Thuan Bac district). Both were not vaccinated after being bitten by domestic and stray dogs.

Last year [2024], Binh Thuan was also a hot spot for rabies with 10 deaths. The Binh Thuan Provincial Center for Disease Control regularly recommends that people who are bitten, scratched, or licked by dogs or cats in an open wound should go to a medical facility for advice and rabies vaccination.

昨年（2024年）、Binh Thuan省は狂犬病の発生が特に多かった地域で、10人の死亡が報告された。Binh Thuan省疾病対策センターは、犬や猫に咬まれたり、引っかかれたり、露出した創口を舐められたりした人がいる場合、医療機関で相談し、狂犬病の予防接種を受けるよう定期的に推奨している。

To date, there is no specific treatment for rabies, and 100% of people die after developing the disease. Currently, vaccination is the only preventive measure.

現在、狂犬病に対する有効な治療法は存在せず、発症した人の100%が死亡いる。現在、予防措置としてワクチン接種が唯一の方法である。
