The Main Department of the State Food and Consumer Service in Kyiv has provided information about a registered case of rabies in a marten in the Solomyansky district of Kyiv, the press service of the State Food and Consumer Service reports.

The department notes that a meeting of the State Emergency Anti-Epizootic Commission under the executive body of the Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration) was held on Friday [24 Jun 2022], where a decision was made to introduce quarantine in the Solomyansky district of Kyiv (with intersections of Lobanovsky Avenue from Golovka Street, Golovka Street from Solomyanskaya Street, Solomyanskaya Street from Protasiv Yar Street, Protasiv Yar Street from M. Hrinchenko Street, M. Hrinchenko Street from Brozhka, Brozhka Street from Lobanovsky Avenue).

"The Main Department of the State Food and Consumer Service in Kyiv, together with the Association of Veterinary Medicine in Kyiv, ensures the organization of preventive vaccinations against rabies in the quarantine zone and the endangered zone. Exhibitions and other entertainment events with dogs in the quarantine zone are also not allowed," emphasized the department.

「Kyiv国家食品消費者サービスの主要部門は、Kyivの獣医学協会とともに、検疫区域と警戒区域における狂犬病の予防接種の実施を保証している。また、検疫区域での犬を伴った展示会などの催し物は禁止されている」と同局は強調している。

They add that during June 2022, 2 cases of rabies were registered in Kyiv (Pechersk and Solomyansky districts).

[In Europe, the oral rabies vaccination (ORV) of red foxes (_Vulpes vulpes_), the main reservoir of rabies in the continent, was developed in the late 1970s and has demonstrated its effectiveness in the eradication of the disease in Western and some Central European countries. Besides red foxes, rabies is common in raccoon dogs (_Nyctereutes procyonoides_), introduced in Europe, and also occurs in grey wolves (_Canis lupus_), arctic foxes (_Alopex lagopus_), badgers (_Meles meles_), pine martens (_Martes martes_) and polecats (_Mustela putorius_).
