[The news report above does not mention how long back the boy was bitten and the site of the bite on the body indicating the location of virus entry. "The incubation period for rabies is typically 2-3 months but may vary from 1 week to 1 year, dependent upon factors such as the location of virus entry and viral load"

( https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/rabies).

Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) soon after exposure can prevent the onset of symptoms and death by preventing virus entry into the central nervous system. PEP consists of extensive washing and local treatment of the wound as soon as possible after exposure, a course of potent

and effective rabies vaccine that meets WHO standards, and the administration of rabies immunoglobulin (RIG), if indicated
(
https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/rabies). Details of the PEP, including type of contact and vaccine doses, are available at https://www.who.int/ith/vaccines/rabies/en/.
